Week 1 of Learn to Skate is Off and Running

What a great start to our first learn to skate program for the year! Today was the start of our learn to skate program for 2021. We are so proud of each and every one of these ladies that came and gave it their all and really showed some gusto given that for many of them, it was the first time they had strapped on a pair of skates! Well done everyone.

This picture is of our little ritual we do at the end of each session. We gear down together and go around the circle where we have to say something we were happy/proud of today and something we want to work on. We find that focusing on the positive really helps with the derby journey. It can be a tough sport and beating yourself up about what you can't do is all too easy at times. Focusing on the positive, cheering each other on, and saying what we want to work on rather than what we don't like is really helpful to staying positive while we learn new things.

It’s also a great time to reflect on where we are as skaters and become more familiar with our fellow league mates.

We want to continue to promote a positive environment in our league and strengthen our bonds as league mates, this is just one of the small ways we are able to do this.
